Interior Design‘s 2023 NYCxDESIGN Awards Opens City’s Weeklong Festival

Nearly 500 designers, architects, and manufacturers filled stadium-style seats at Penn 1 in Manhattan Thursday for the 8th edition of Interior Design’s NYCxDESIGN Awards. The event kicked off the 11th NYCxDESIGN festival, the first to take place in a world officially post-pandemic.

Ilene Shaw, the executive director of the NYCxDESIGN festival, opened the ceremony by welcoming guests and emphasizing the importance of the honor that celebrates a bustling metropolis brimming with creative talent. “This is the design award that celebrates New York City,” she stated, highlighting that the city boasts a larger number of design professionals, makers, and educators than any other. “Design permeates our five boroughs.”

Shaw then introduced Interior Design Editor-in-Chief Cindy Allen, playfully dubbing her the “master of ceremonies and master of many things.” Together, they unveiled the 2023 winners, selected from a pool of 442 product and project submissions from 111 firms and 167 manufacturers. Each winner received the prestigious NYCxDESIGN Awards trophy, Lladró’s Guest statuette. Winners also had the opportunity to pose with a larger-than-life version of the Guest, which stood atop the staircase, overseeing the festivities.

The ceremony concluded with Allen’s personally crafted “Oprah moment” as she revealed that one lucky audience member would be awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to Maison&Objet in Paris in the fall. Jessica Salciccia from West Chin Architects emerged as the fortunate winner.
